Ductless mini split systems work using refrigeration. Refrigeration does not necessarily mean the system creates cool air. Rather, it moves heat out of a space in order to cool something down. A blower fan in the indoor unit sucks in air, and refrigerant cycles through to remove heat. That heat travels to the outdoor unit where it releases so the indoor air can cool down.<\/p>\n

Most ductless mini splits are also heat pumps\u2014heating and cooling systems in one. That means that the refrigerant cycle can reverse. In other words, the outdoor unit can absorb heat and move it inside, cooling off the house.<\/p>\n
